15.1 Qualifications for Admission

Admission is limited and competitive. To be eligible for consideration for admission to the MBA program, an applicant shall:
-
normally hold at least a Bachelor's Degree, with a minimum 'B' standing, from an institution recognized by Senate as evidenced by an official transcript from each university or other post secondary institution previously attended (other than Memorial University of Newfoundland). If not recorded on the transcript, official evidence of completion of undergraduate degree must also be submitted;
-
normally have accumulated a minimum of two years of relevant full-time paid work experience or self-employment, deemed acceptable to the Faculty of Business Administration and as evidenced by a CV or resume that shows, in detail, work experience and provides employer contact information for verification. Work experience need not be continuous and may have been obtained prior to or concurrent with a previous degree program;

achieve a satisfactory total score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) (normally a minimum of 550 or 515 GMAT Focus Edition), as well as an appropriate balance of verbal and quantitative GMAT score components or a satisfactory total score on the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test (normally a minimum of 302), as well as an appropriate balance of verbal and quantitative GRE score components. provide letters of appraisal from two referees, at least one of whom has had close professional contact with the applicant within the last two years, and at least one of whom is capable of appraising the applicant's academic potential as a graduate student.

An applicant who did not complete a Bachelor's degree at a recognized university where English is the primary language of instruction must normally complete either the:
-
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and achieve a paper-based score of 580 (or higher), computer-based score of 237 (or higher), or Internet based score of 92-93 (or higher); or
-
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and achieve a score of 7 (or higher).

Where applicable, an official TOEFL or IELTS score report (or another equivalent test acceptable to the School of Graduate Studies) shall be submitted directly by the educational testing service. Information regarding the TOEFL is available from the Educational Testing Service at www.ets.org. IELTS information is available at www.ielts.org.

In exceptional cases, an applicant who has not completed a Bachelor's degree, but who meets all other requirements, may be considered for admission. Preference will be given to those who present a high and balanced GMAT or GRE score, have a minimum of 10 years of full-time managerial and executive experience, and have completed several years of university studies. The Faculty may also take into account relevant professional credentials. An applicant who does not meet normal admission requirements may be required to complete, with a high level of achievement, certain undergraduate courses before being considered for admission.

Applicants who are graduates of the Faculty of Business Administration's Graduate Diploma in Business Administration who achieved a minimum GDBA program cumulative average of 80% with no grade below 75% must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who have earned a minimum of a four- or five-year Bachelor's degree in business or commerce from an AACSB International (AACSB) accredited program must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who are Associates of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (ACIA) and are in good standing must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who have successfully attained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and are members in good standing of the CFA Institute must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who have successfully obtained the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and are members in good standing of a CPA provincial association must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who have earned a Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and are members in good standing of a provincial law society must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and are registered physicians in good standing with their governing body must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who have earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and are in good standing with their governing body must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Applicants who have successfully obtained the Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation and are members in good standing with their governing body must meet all MBA admission requirements outlined above with the exception of the GMAT or GRE testing requirement, which may be waived.

Notwithstanding the above, in exceptional cases, and only on the strong recommendation of the Faculty of Business Administration, consideration may be given to an applicant who does not qualify for admission consideration in accordance with the entrance requirements outlined above. It is noted that the GMAT or GRE testing requirement is only ever waived for the applicants noted above.
