Student Residences provides both on and off campus housing services for students and summer accommodations for students, staff, faculty, and visitors to Memorial University of Newfoundland's St. John's Campus. Memorial University of Newfoundland's St. John’s campus has three styles of on-campus housing; traditional residence halls in Paton College, suite style in Macpherson College, and apartments in Burton’s Pond. The nine Paton College “Houses” are co-educational and provide accommodations for approximately 100 students in each building, mostly in double occupancy (shared) bedrooms. Each House has a kitchen, TV room, laundry room, study room, and computer room. Macpherson College consists of two large wings, each able to accommodate 250 residents. Accommodations are provided in a private bedroom with a semi-private (shared) washroom, and each floor has a community lounge and meeting/study space. Laundry facilities are available on the first floor of each wing. Accommodations in Paton College and Macpherson College are ‘room and board’ and all residents are required to purchase a meal plan as outlined under the Ancillary Operations section of this Calendar. Burton’s Pond Apartments provides housing for approximately 500 students in four apartment buildings (Cabot Court, Cartier Court, Gilbert Court, and Guy Court). Each apartment consists of four single bedrooms with shared kitchen, living room, and bathroom. A services building, Corte Real, is accessible to the residents 24 hours a day and includes a computer room, laundry centre, study room, common room, and the residents’ mail boxes. On-Campus Housing is also available for students with families in 11 two bedroom apartments in Baltimore Court.

Each application for On-Campus Housing must include a processing fee that is non-refundable and is not credited to the accommodations fees. Admission and readmission to On-Campus Housing is based on several factors, including scholarship, the applicant’s potential to contribute to the quality of student life, suitability, and prior behavior. All applicants must reach their sixteenth birthday on, or before, the date they move in to residence. The University reserves the right to refuse admission, or readmission, to On-Campus Housing to any applicant. Any offer of accommodation for On-Campus Housing is conditional on the applicant being accepted as a student of Memorial University of Newfoundland, or the Fisheries and Marine Institute. An applicant who is not accepted to the University must contact Student Residences and cancel their offer of accommodations immediately upon notification from the Office of the Registrar.

All residents moving into residence in the Fall semester are required to accept a two-semester Agreement (i.e. Fall and Winter semesters). Occupancy is normally the day before the first day of classes until 12:00 noon on the day after the last regularly scheduled undergraduate examination, each semester. Residents who require accommodations between semesters can make an official request to housing@mun.ca. If approved there will be an additional charge for accommodations between semesters. Student Residences reserves the right to deny students accommodations between semesters.

All residents of On-Campus Housing, and their guests, must abide by the Housing Regulations as well as the University’s Student Code of Conduct, as failure to do so may result in discipline. The Off-Campus Housing Office provides information and advice to students facing difficulties in their housing search or issues with their landlords or roommates. It provides enhanced web resources, social and educational programming, and housing related resources for students of Memorial University of Newfoundland who are residing off campus. The staff of the Off-Campus Housing Office meet with students to assist them with their housing needs, conduct site visits, and review rental properties using the Off-Campus Housing Amenity Checklist.
