Selection

Our holistic review process ensures that candidates are evaluated not only on strong academic performance, but also on the diverse experiences, perspectives, and personal qualities they bring to the profession. By considering attributes such as community engagement, leadership, resilience, and lived experience alongside academic metrics, our interview and admissions committees identify well-rounded individuals prepared to meet the complex needs of patients and communities. Our approach also promotes diversity within the matriculating class, enriching the learning environment and ultimately improving care for people from all backgrounds. While high academic standards remain essential for success in medical school, a holistic process recognizes that applicant potential is shaped by both intellectual capability and the character, compassion, and varied insights each applicant contributes.

The Admissions Committee is a standing committee of Faculty Council, with members from a variety of backgrounds, professions, and experiences.  Members review applications holistically in the context of the applicant’s lived experience, resulting in the most suitable candidates filing the number of seats available in any year.  This selection is made in accordance with the Regulations for the Degree of Doctor of Medicine in the current University Calendar.  Please refer to Admissions Committee -Terms of Reference.

Offers of admissions will be sent by pool from March – May. All applicants must accept or decline their offer of admission via their student account. Applicants offered a space on the wait list must also indicate their decision to accept to decline the waitlist offer through their student account.

Applicants who are not offered a space in the class or on the waitlist will receive a letter of regret and have the option to make an appointment for feedback on their application.
