Dr. Uygur, MD, Ph.D. is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), where she has been a per-course instructor since September 2024, teaching Health Promotion, and Health Policy and Decision -Making courses. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health at Near East University. Her academic work integrates teaching, research, and mentorship, and she is committed to training future public health researchers and practitioners through evidence-based and practice-oriented education.
Her research focuses on epidemiology, reproductive and population health, and health systems research, with particular emphasis on women’s and child health, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, family planning, and preventive health behaviors. She has number of publications in international peer-reviewed journals on topics such as health-seeking behavior, infection control practices, HPV vaccine awareness, maternal health outcomes, and health information on social media. Her work applies quantitative and qualitative research methods to inform health policy and practice, supported by experience in international research collaborations, including with the United Nations University-International Institute for Global Health, as well as applied health systems analysis in global consultancy settings.

Current Research Project
She is currently a core team member of the World Breastfeeding Trends Initiative (WBTi) Canada project, contributing to a national assessment of breastfeeding policies and programs. The project evaluates Canada’s progress in implementing evidence-based strategies that promote, protect, and support breastfeeding using standardized international indicators. Her role includes data collection, policy analysis, and evidence synthesis, with a particular focus on HIV and breastfeeding and maternal protection indicators. The findings aim to inform policymakers and strengthen public health strategies to improve maternal and child health outcomes across Canada.
