Clinical Faculty Remuneration Procedure
Definitions
Distributed Clinical Faculty — Physicians holding an active faculty appointment with Memorial University who are accountable for providing learners with clinical learning experiences and performance assessments throughout the set duration of the clinical learning experience.
Distributed Medical Education (DME) — A unit within the Faculty of Medicine responsible for overseeing the development and coordination of the distributed education activities for Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) distributed training sites.
Fiscal year — April 1 to March 31.
Learner(s) - Distributed Clinical Faculty Remuneration Policy — Individual(s) enrolled in Memorial University’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) program or postgraduate residency training program.
Required clinical learning experience/rotation — A required clinical learning experience with a pre-identified timeline and set of objectives, which must be successfully completed to meet the requirement of the course or program.
Procedure
A.0 Clinical Faculty in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut and Prince Edward Island
Clinical faculty must complete Financial and Administrative Services Direct Deposit Form and provide a void cheque directly to Financial and Administration Services in order to receive remuneration for teaching Faculty of Medicine learners.
B.0 Payment Process
B.1 DME staff will confirm completion of written summative assessments for learners and verify that the faculty appointment is active.
B.2 DME generates a monthly report of completed summative assessments and checks clinical learning experience dates.
B.3 DME completes documentation for remuneration.
B.4 Faculty of Medicine’s Finance Office reviews DME documentation and approves payment.
B.5 Documentation is sent to Memorial University’s Financial and Administrative Services Office for final approval, processing and remuneration.
C.0 Clinical Faculty in New Brunswick
Clinical faculty in New Brunswick must complete the Financial and Administrative Services Direct Deposit Form and provide a void cheque directly to Financial and Administrative Services to receive remuneration for the Community Engagement II and III clinical learning experience supervision.
Payment to New Brunswick preceptors for all other undergraduate and postgraduate clinical learning experiences are facilitated via Horizon Health.
