  1. To discuss the concept of global health as addressing inequities in underserved populations regardless of geographic location
  2. To examine the role of globalization on health (including global burden of disease) and healthcare
  3. To highlight the interrelationship between health, human rights, and social and gender inequities

  5. To review the social, political, environmental, and economic determinants of health with a view of increasing sociocultural and political awareness
  6. To discuss the issues of access, equity, inclusion and social justice related to patient care

  1. Gain knowledge in the skills of everyday consent, personal and relational boundaries/expectations, key components of respect, and skills of interpersonal effectiveness
  2. Gain knowledge in how emotional regulation practices enhance relational skills including relationship building and maintaining
  3. Practice identifying which skills are most effective in which scenarios
  4. Practice utilizing the skills in case scenarios
  5. Link understand of these skills directly to enhancing the workplace experience for those we work with and those we serve

Objectives:

  1. Describe the principles of a Just Culture and explain how systems thinking contributes to patient safety.
  2. Recognize opportunities for quality improvement in everyday clinical practice using a systems-based approach.
  3. Describe established frameworks for healthcare quality, including the Institute for Healthcare Improvement dimensions of quality, the Quintuple Aim, and the concept of a Learning Health System.
  4. Apply a structured approach to analyzing patient safety events by identifying contributing system factors and potential improvement strategies.
  5. Explain the role of continuous quality improvement in improving patient outcomes, patient experience, provider experience, healthcare value, and health equity.

March 30, 2027 – CMPA Patient Safety Primer

Objectives

  1. Recognize the elements of high-quality documentation and how this promotes safe patient care
  2. Describe the components of an effective informed consent discussion
  3. Identify the key steps in disclosing a patient safety incident
  4. Commit to at least one strategy to promote psychological safety and encourage speaking up within your team

The standardized curriculum is based on CMPA medico-legal risk data and the CanMEDS 2015 and CanMEDS-FM competencies.

Format: 

  • Residents will need to complete about 1 hour of pre-work.
  • The live workshop will be hosted via Zoom 

Subject matter is targeted to PGY1 Family Medicine and PGY2 Royal College
