Mary Jane Smith

Dr. Smith is a Pediatrician and Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her clinical focus is pediatrics respiratory care. She has postgraduate training in Pediatric Sleep medicine and oversees the sleep disordered program at the Janeway. She recently initiated a large quality improvement study related to pediatric sleep disordered breathing leading to significant change within the program. She is Clinic Director for the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis program and is site PI for international studies related to cystic fibrosis. She teaches at all levels within the medical school and just completed two terms as Assistant Program Director for the Pediatrics Residency Program. She has received awards for teaching, quality improvement, and, in 2023, received the Emerging Academic Leader award from the Pediatric Chairs of Canada. Dr. Smith recently competed her Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety at Harvard University. She is eager to use this knowledge to improve the care of children in Newfoundland and Labrador.
