Leigh Ann Newhook
Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Co-director of JPRU M.D. Memorial, FRCPCPediatrics
Dr. Newhook is a Pediatrician and Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University. Her clinical practice includes general pediatrics, and she serves as a pediatrician in the Children and Youth in Alternate Care (CAYAC) Clinic.
Dr. Newhook’s research has focused on a wide range of, including infant feeding and nutrition, Type 1 diabetes, pediatric mental health, and the health needs of children and youth in alternate care. Her work has contributed significantly to advancing healthcare policies and services for children and families across Newfoundland and Labrador.
She currently serves as Co-Director of Research for the Janeway Pediatric Research Unit and is Co-Principal Investigator of the BEACON Study (Building an Enhanced HeAlth and SoCial Care Future for Children and Youth in NL). She is also a lead member of the Baby-Friendly NL breastfeeding research working group.
Dr. Newhook has authored more than 50 scientific publications and has mentored numerous research trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels.
When she's not working, Dr. Newhook enjoys gardening, CrossFit, and belting out tunes at karaoke!
