Objectives

  1. Recognize the elements of high-quality documentation and how this promotes safe patient care
  2. Describe the components of an effective informed consent discussion
  3. Identify the key steps in disclosing a patient safety incident
  4. Commit to at least one strategy to promote psychological safety and encourage speaking up within your team

The standardized curriculum is based on CMPA medico-legal risk data and the CanMEDS 2015 and CanMEDS-FM competencies.

Format: 

  • Residents will need to complete about 1 hour of pre-work.
  • The live workshop will be hosted via Zoom 
  • Subject matter is targeted to PGY1 Family Medicine and PGY2 Royal College residents

  1. To discuss the concept of global health as addressing inequities in underserved populations regardless of geographic location
  2. To examine the role of globalization on health (including global burden of disease) and healthcare
  3. To highlight the interrelationship between health, human rights, and social and gender inequities
  4. Social Accountability and Health Equities:
  5. To review the social, political, environmental, and economic determinants of health with a view of increasing sociocultural and political awareness
  6. To discuss the issues of access, equity, inclusion and social justice related to patient care
