School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies courses are identified by a four-digit numbering system, with the second digit denoting the following:
| 0,1,2: Classroom-based courses |
| 3: Research courses |
| 4: Language courses |
| 5,6: Land-based courses |
| 7,8: Experiential Courses |
All courses of the School are designated by SASS.
