I am a biochemist interested in how our unique environment affects human health and aging. My research program includes interdisciplinary methods, community-centred approaches, and the purposeful practice of Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing) in projects based in Newfoundland and Labrador. Current projects include exploring health benefits of marine biomass and understanding opportunities and barriers to healthy aging in rural communities. I currently teach HUBI 1430, CHEM 2440, BIOL 3053.

My primary research areas are soil remediation and waste utilization. My research interests include using electrokinetic remediation, bioremediation, and phytoremediation for contaminant removal and developing innovative soil remediation technologies. My recent research interests are using industrial waste material as soil amendments for crop production and soil remediation. I am also interested in non-destructive monitoring of soil water content, salinity, and snow density using TDR and using digital images for predicting crop nitrogen deficiency and soil organic matter.

My research interest includes the design and synthesis of metal organic frameworks, their application in environmental remediation of pollutants and gas capture and storage.

I’m a behavioural ecologist. I’m particularly interested in animal social ecology and in the links between habitat characteristics and animal interactions. I’ve worked primarily with aquatic systems, which has led to a broader interest in aquatic ecology.

I do research on the cumulative impacts of natural resource development on socio-environmental systems, with a focus on watersheds at large scale. I use ecosystem services modelling and geospatial analyses to support policy development for resilient ecosystems and social justice. I am interested in the green and just transition for Newfoundland and Labrador, and Canada more broadly.
