Research Interests
I am a medievalist specialising in later Middle English language and literature as well as the devotional cultures of the period. Some of my recent work explores the cultural history and impact of the nova festa that appeared around c. 1350, such as the cults of the Holy Name and the Five Wounds. I teach courses on Chaucer, medieval romance, the History of the English Language (HEL), and, every autumn, the earlier literature survey (c. 700 to 1700)—from Beowulf to Paradise Lost.
