I have work experience. Can I skip the professional development seminars?
No. The professional development seminars are mandatory for all students in the new B.Comm. and B.Comm.(Co-op.) programs. The seminars are non-credit with a PASS/FAIL grading scheme and are recorded on student transcripts.
I’m a new student at Memorial. How can I find out more about the university and St. John’s?
More information on our university, city and province can be found here and here.
I’m not a business student. Can I register for business courses?
BUSI courses at the 3000 level and higher are only available to students in a Business program (not including Business One). However courses at the 2000 level and lower are open to non-business students. At the beginning of the registration period for the upcoming term, spaces in these 2000 level business courses are reserved for students enrolled in undergraduate business programs. When reserves are lifted, Memorial students in other programs may register if prerequisites have been met and space is available. See relevant dates from the Registrar’s Office.
I’m studying at another post-secondary institution. Does Memorial’s Faculty of Business Administration have any transfer agreements?
Students at other post-secondary institutions who wish to transfer to Memorial may apply to the university as transfer students. Courses taken at other post-secondary institutions are individually evaluated by the Office of the Registrar. Questions about receiving credit for courses taken at other post-secondary institutions may be directed to transfer.credit@mun.ca. The University Calendar offers additional information on the awarding of transfer credit.
A class I am trying to register for is full. Can I be signed in by a professor?
No. We don’t admit students into courses that are full.
How do I get notified about scholarships, upcoming events and work and volunteer opportunities specific to the faculty?
The Academic Programs Office sends regular communication to business students through the undergraduate email listserv. If you are not already receiving emails from the office, email busihelp@mun.ca with your request to be added to the listserv. Be sure to include your name, student number and program of study. You may also follow our social media channels for information about what's happening at the faculty.
You can also check the Undergraduate awards and scholarships page to view awards, scholarships and bursaries available for the undergraduate business students.
Embark can also assist you with getting information about work and/or volunteer opportunities.
I have general questions about registration, enrolment, admissions and graduation. Where do I go?
Please visit the website of the Registrar’s Office.
I’m interested in studying abroad as a Memorial business student. Where can I get more information?
Visit the faculty's international page.
How do I apply for study abroad programs, and what are the eligibility requirements?
Information regarding study abroad opportunities can be accessed through the Go Abroad webpage. To ensure that studying abroad aligns with your academic goals and eligibility criteria, it's crucial to schedule an appointment with the Outbound Exchange Coordinator in the Faculty of Business prior to starting the application. The Bachelor of Commerce is the ideal program to study abroad as it offers flexibility in course selection and course load.
Are there resources available for improving study skills or time management?
We are now offering professional development sessions for students on time management and stress management with an academic advisor before each semester's final exam period. Look out for details on dates, times, and sessions via your email.
These sessions aim to give students valuable strategies for managing time effectively and reducing stress during times of academic pressure.
I want to request to take an extra course, how do I do that?
You can request a course load waiver by filling out the appropriate form and submitting it to busihelp@mun.ca. Please note that these requests are typically approved based on the following criteria:
Minimum 70% cumulative average OR average over the last 30 credit hours, AND demonstration of successful completion of a load of 15 credit hours (or more) in at least 2 semesters.
