Personal Profile

Dr. Carols Bazan is an assistant professor of technology entrepreneurship who is cross-appointed to the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. His research areas of interest are entrepreneurship, small business, technology transfer and commercialization, new product development, computational social science and innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Dr. Bazan’s primary research work lies at the intersection of academia, innovation and entrepreneurship. It’s concerned with turning academic research outcomes into successful businesses (research mobilization); for example, via translational research and development.

Dr. Bazan studies and designs efficient and effective methodologies for translating basic and applied research outcomes into commercially viable products and services. His studies include identifying both best practices for successful technology innovation, transfer and commercialization, and barriers in the ecosystem that hinder the translation of university innovations into successful businesses. Outside of academia, Dr. Bazan has extensive C-level management experience in the for-profit and not-for-profit business contexts.
