Engineering students honoured for high academic achievements

On July 29, the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science honoured high-achieving undergraduate students at its Spring 2021 Semester Awards Presentations.

A total of $35,924 was awarded. The amount not only represents the high achievements of the student recipients, but also speaks to the confidence of industry and alumni in the high quality of education the students are receiving.

“Congratulations to all students who received awards and recognition today,” said Dr. Geoff Rideout, associate dean (undergraduate studies), Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. “A huge thank you to the donors. Without their investment in our students and our programs, this event would not be possible.”

Twenty-one scholarships were handed out, along with work term awards and the Verafin Introduction to Programming prizes.

Dean’s List recipients for the classes of 2021, 2022 and 2024 were also announced. The Dean’s List recognizes top academic performers with academic averages in the top 10 per cent of their class. The Angus Bruneau Award was also given out and is awarded to students named to the Dean’s List in every year of their program.

Always happy to participate in scholarship events, Dr. Dennis Peters, acting dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, said the event shines a light on the academic successes and achievements of engineering undergraduate students.

“To be considered for an award, scholarship or bursary, students must have achieved a high academic standard so today we are awarding some of the very best students in our programs,” he said. “Congratulations to all students. These awards are testament to your hard work and dedication.”

Engineering alumni and other stakeholders provided more than $257,483 in scholarships and awards to 175 undergraduate students during the 2020-21 scholarship year.
