Dec. 6 Vigil to Commemorate the Montreal Massacre
The Sexual Harassment Office and Department of Gender Studies invite you to the annual Dec. 6 Vigil. This Vigil is held to mark the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre as we honour the 14 women who were killed because of their gender at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal, Que.
The anniversary coincides with the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada.
The Vigil reflects on how to keep the events of Dec. 6, 1989 relevant to all generations and continue to connect campus- and community-wide efforts to end violence against women in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as reflect upon concrete actions that each of us can take as a shared responsibility to prevent and eliminate gender based violence.
The Vigil will be held in the S.J. Carew (Engineering) Building in the Aungus Bruneau Engineering Lecture Theatre, rm. EN2006, from 6-7 p.m. Following the Vigil there will be a reception in the main foyer. Parking will be available in lot 60.
