Professionalism Expectations

Professionalism Expectations of Undergraduate Medical Learners

Learners are expected to display professionalism at all times in interactions with each other, with patients, and their families/significant others, staff, and with members of the public. The following attributes of professionalism apply to undergraduate medical learners and form the basis of a social contract between a physician and society; they are outlined in detail in the Statement of Professional Attributes:

  • Respect for others
  • Honesty and integrity
  • Compassion and Empathy
  • Responsibility and Duty
Learners shall also abide by the codes of conducts and policies regarding a respectful learning environment and workplace listed on the Professionalism and Mistreatment page.

All learners in Memorial's MD program are required to have Educational Registration with either the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland & Labrador (CPSNL) or the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island (CPSPEI), which both require adherance to the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Code of Ethics and Professionalism.
