Memorial Engineering Outreach

What is Memorial Engineering Outreach?

Memorial Engineering Outreach is a unit within Memorial University’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) whose primary focus is on youth and community engagement. MEO started as one summer camp in 2012 and has grown to include nine weeks of summer programing as well as a variety of other outreach events that take place year round.

The goals of MEO are to increase the awareness and understanding of engineering amongst youth and therefore support the FEAS recruitment and growth plan. Offering young people opportunities to not only learn about engineering but to experience engineering will help break current stereotypes that exist and encourage all young people to consider the future they might have in this exciting and growing industry.

MEO pays close attention to groups that are underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and tries to make programming accessible for as many young people as possible. MEO has worked with a number of community groups and large organizations in efforts to make engineering part of the conversation for youth today.
