Testimonials from former ECL Programme participants

"Thanks for the chance of a life-time. I trully learned a lot of information in a relatively short length of time--too short. Another couple of years would have been just right. I'll never ever look at architecture the same way again. Wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks again. The best experience of my life."

"Simply amazing, and I am sad to be leaving but happy to return home. The program was great although hard at times. I have learnt a great deal of material and some rich 'hidden curriculum.' During the past few weeks I have learnt a great deal about my country, England, and myself!"

"Thank you for the opportunity to study with you this summer. It was a wonderful experience. We are descending into St. John's. So I have no more to write. Except that this was one of the best experiences I ever had."

"Overall, this was a fabulous experience. We worked hard and had fun, met new people, and experienced so many new things. Sure, the fieldbook was a pain in the ass sometimes, and lots of times I wished I didn't go to the pub but studied, but this helped to make this trip such a great experience. If I stepped off of the plane today and was offered the chance to go again, I wouldn't even have to think about it."

"Just wanted to say thanks for a great trip. It was really the experience of a lifetime. I won't look at things the same again, especially architecture!"

"I enjoyed all field trips and thought they were all interesting. I'm glad I got the chance to do this because I don't think I would have went to all those places by myself and I would have missed a lot. I will never look at architecture, heritage or geography with the same slight glance as I did before. Thanks!"

"The Cathedrals! Knowing the reasons for why they are all each different was a way to make us appreciate the stunning architecture even more. Also, the balance between elite and vernacular architecture was good. I never would have appreciated the decorated woodwork in timber frame houses without taking these courses."

"If I had not taken these classes I would not have seen as much beauty in the symmetry of the classical buildings. I still have trouble telling therm all apart and think that I like buildings that are a bit more decorated (Go Wren!) more than the super plain buildings (Jones is alright, but not my favourite), but now I can put the architecture into historical settings and understand why certain big buildings are the way they are. Now every museum or train station has me wondereing who built it, when they built it, and why they have a square window next to an arched window. FUN!"
