Summarizing for Written and Oral Reports

Description

This session is about distilling content into more concise portions so that it is usable for a new purpose. In terms of writing, summarizing is used to support claims based on the research of others. A common strategy is to borrow from an abstract; the problems with this approach, as well as alternatives to it, are covered in this session. Additionally, summarizing the work you have done in a format that can be shared with supervisors and co-workers will be discussed. It is often difficult to decide how much to share and how to do it in a more succinct way. Identifying what should and should not be included, as well as how to share this information, will be a primary focus of the workshop.
