Personal Profile

Dr. Huang received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in radio physics from the School of Electronic Information at Wuhan University, Wuhan, Hubei, China, in 1995, 1997, and 2001, respectively. He completed an M.Eng. and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in electrical and computer engineering at Memorial University, St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, in 2004 and 2007, respectively.

From 2008 to 2010, he was a Design Engineer with Rutter Technologies, St. John’s, NF, Canada. Since 2010, he has been with the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Memorial University, where he received an early tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 2015 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2019. His past and present research interests include the mapping of oceanic surface parameters via high-frequency ground wave radar, X-band marine radar and, more recently, Global Navigation Satellite Systems. He has published more than 250 research papers. His teaching involves engineering mathematics and electrical engineering courses.

Dr. Huang served as a Technical Program Co-chair of the IEEE Newfoundland Electrical and Computer Engineering Conference (NECEC) in 2012 and 2013. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE ACCESS and the IEEE CANADIAN JOURNAL OF ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING and an Editorial Board Member of REMOTE SENSING. He has been Technical Program Committee member and reviewer for many IEEE international conferences, such as RadarCon, ICC, GLOBECOM, IGARSS, and Oceans. He also serves as a proposal reviewer for Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and regular reviewer for more than 50 international journals. He was a member of the American Geophysical Union, and he is presently a senior member of IEEE.
