The Faculty of Arts sure can pick them.  Two years ago political science and French major Mark Browne was featured as a member of our Brainy Bunch. Now he’s achieved membership in a slightly more elite group as the youngest elected MHA in Newfoundland and Labrador’s history.

Mr. Brown, who previously worked with the provincial liberals and with Liberal MP Judy Foote, graduated from Memorial’s Faculty of Arts in May 2015 with an honours degree in political science and a minor in French.

Currently a member-elect for Placentia West-Bellevue (his official swearing-in should take place in mid to late December), Mr. Brown calls his experience on election night “truly humbling.”

He says the biggest issue for his district (which encompasses Marystown to Long Harbour) is to maintain economic prosperity and attract more work and jobs to the area.

On the issue of young people entering politics Mr. Browne maintains that government should reflect all different walks of life and a broad range of perspectives.
