Personal Profile

I received my bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering specializing in thermo-fluids and energy systems from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana, 2005. In 2009, I joined the Energy and Combustion Laboratory at the University of Manitoba as a graduate student, with my research focus on nozzle geometry effect on the atomization of liquid fuel in quiescent and subsonic crossflows. I obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Mechanical engineering in 2011. After the MSc, I joined the Turbulence Research Group at the University of Manitoba to pursue a PhD program in Mechanical Engineering in 2012. My PhD research focused on exploring the eduction and evolution of vortical structures that dominate three-dimensional turbulent offset jet flows (with additional emphasis on mitigating riverbed scouring at hydropower generation stations). I received my PhD degree in 2016.

After receiving my PhD degree, I joined the Hydraulic Research and Testing Facility (HRTF) at the University of Manitoba as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2016, where I conducted extensive research in river ice engineering. Besides supervising and mentoring graduate students at the HRTF, I investigated the transport of turbulent structures beneath river ice jams, and their dominant role in the formation and propagation of border ice. During this period, I also worked as a sessional instructor in Power Engineering Technology at the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology.

In August 2018, I joined the Mechanical Engineering department of Memorial University of Newfoundland as an Assistant Professor. My focus is currently teaching thermo-fluids courses at both undergraduate and graduate level. I also currently serve as a reviewer for the Journal of Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, and a member of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
