Abstract

A detailed look at the research and development behind the android application, AndroidSpyder, ahandheld network diagnostic applcation that was created in an attempt to provide a useful collectionof tools for system administration and vulnerability testing. Key android platform concepts such asactivity lifecycles, intents and asychronous tasks are outlined along with their implementation in thisparticular application. Each of the tools is examined, giving an overview of the protocols used, theirimplementation in AndroidSpyder, and any additional work that went into providing thatfunctionality. The resulting application is evaluated as a useful, functional prototype and ideas forfurther work will be presented.
