DUTIES
The Craftsperson II, under the direction of the Plant Supervisor, will be accountable for carrying out the functions of the plant to ensure a highly reliable supply of cryogens to users on campus. Duties include daily checks and equipment inspections; dispensing large volumes of liquid nitrogen according to schedule and small amounts on demand; operating the plant and dispensing liquid helium on dates requested by clients; scheduling, performing, and logging equipment maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations; ensuring adherence to safety procedures; inspecting and maintaining tanks, valves, piping, motors, compressors, pumps, and related controls systems; establishing and maintaining relationships with clients; ensuring the plant is operated in a manner that minimizes helium losses and controls operating costs; ordering supplies and parts; entering work orders in MP2; ensuring all cryogens dispensed are recorded, signed for, and accurately billed; adhering to (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) TDG requirements; tracking liquid nitrogen production and reporting or investigating reductions promptly; maintaining appropriate records for the ISO 9001 management system; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) at a skilled level in the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, testing, modification, and installation of motors, compressors, process piping, and pressure equipment; completion of an approved millwright journeyperson program and apprenticeship, along with a red seal journey-person certificate, is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. A Red Seal journeyperson certificate in a related mechanical trade, such as Machinist, Power Engineer, or Refrigeration Mechanic, may be accepted. Preference will be given to candidates with specialized training or experience in cryogenics. The successful candidate will be expected to have knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in the work. Training and/or certification in more than one relevant trade would be considered an asset.
SALARY $60,091 - $67,257 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
