Cannabis in the Workplace

The Government of Canada has announced that cannabis for non-medical use will be legalized on Oct.17, 2018.

Memorial has a duty to maintain a safe workplace and employees are required to show up fit to work. This will not change with the legalization of cannabis. For information on cannabis in the workplace at Memorial, please click here.

Leave Administration Policy

Memorial has a new Leave Administration policy which was approved by the Board of Regents at its meeting on March 15, 2018. This policy incorporates the following existing university policies:
• Deferred Salary Leave Program
• Leave Without Pay
• Recognizing Previous Service for Determining Annual Vacation Entitlement
• Work Flex Program

Other Human Resources policies

Human Resources is responsible for all pan-university HR policies. You can find these, along with others, on the policy website under the people resources category. Information pertinent to unionized employees can be found in the respective collective agreements.

Recent policy activity has seen the development of the Determination of Employee or Independent Contractor Status Policy. To aid users an informational video that highlights some of the main points of the policy has been created.

 New Policy Resource

The Department of Human Resources is developing a series of quick reference materials related to human resource policies.  Each will highlight the key elements of one policy and any recent changes that have occurred through policy revisions.
