Moya Crocker's outstanding performance earns her the SGS' Dean's Award for Service Excellence
Moya Crocker, academic program administrator, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, is the recipient of the School of Graduate Studies’ Dean’s Award for Service Excellence for 2013.
Ms. Crocker was nominated for the award by the associate dean of Graduate Studies for the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Dr. Leonard Lye. Dr. Lye is thrilled that Ms. Crocker was chosen for the award.
“I nominated Moya for this award, but she received a lot of support from many others in the faculty. The work that Moya does is extremely important to our graduate studies program and she does her job extremely well. The support she provides to engineering graduate students is invaluable to our students and to our faculty as a whole,” said Dr. Lye.
Ms. Crocker began working in the graduate studies office in Engineering and Applied Science in 1984, just four years after she joined Memorial. She has worked with seven different associate deans over the years and more than 1,200 students. While she has remained in the graduate studies office, her position has evolved over the years, which, she says, has keep things interesting and challenging at times. She is extremely honoured to receive this award and to know that people appreciate the job that she does.
“I love my job. We have a wonderful support team in the office; I couldn’t do it without them. Working closely with local, national and international graduate students can be challenging but also very rewarding. I am fortunate to have a career that I have enjoyed for more than 30 years. I am very appreciative of this award and would like to thank all those who supported it. It is truly an honour to be recognized in this way,” she said.
In addition to her work with graduate students, Ms. Crocker has been instrumental in the growth of the faculty’s graduate program - from its 50 students in 1984 to its current enrolment of almost 500. She has also received the Dean’s Award for Exemplary Service from the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and the President’s Award for Exemplary Service, in 2004 and 2008 respectively.
The Dean’s Award for Service Excellence was established in 2012 by the School of Graduate Studies to recognize the work and contributions of graduate staff and faculty members.
