Jinghua Nie's outstanding work ethic has earned her the SGS' Dean's Award for Service Excellence
Jinghua Nie, the faculty’s international officer, has been awarded the School of Graduate Studies’ (SGS) Dean’s Award for Service Excellence.
Dr. Leonard Lye, the faculty’s associate dean of Graduate Studies, nominated Ms. Nie for this service award and is thrilled that she was chosen.
“Jinghua does her duties with the greatest diligence and care,” said Dr. Lye. “She goes well beyond her call of duty. Since becoming the faculty’s international officer in 2009, the number of course-based students has more than doubled. We are very fortunate to have her.”
A recent graduate of the program, Weiyun Lin, is grateful for Ms. Nie’s dedication and attention to details.
“Ms. Nie goes out of her way to alleviate half of our disorientation as newcomers to a foreign country,” she said. “She delivers the most crucial support to international students, and clearly understands our needs and devotes herself to serve us – from day one to graduation. I feel she is a real asset to the faculty.”
Ms. Nie is humbled and honoured to receive this recognition and to know that the work she does is appreciated and helpful to students.
“I am truly thrilled by this award,” she said. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to those who have supported and nominated me for this award. To me, I am just doing my job. I am very thankful for this recognition.”
Ms. Nie manages all aspects of engineering’s course-based programs, which involves promotion, locally and internationally, to handling all inquiries from students before, during and after the start of their programs. She plans seminars and conducts information sessions for current and future students. She develops leads and contracts with recruiting agencies and partner universities, which includes the signing of memorandum of understandings with universities from various countries. She co-ordinates admissions of students in conjunction with the Board of Studies, and last but not least, student recruitment and retention.
The SGS’ Dean’s Award for Service Excellence was established in 2012 by the School of Graduate Studies to recognize the work and contributions of graduate staff and faculty members.
