Dr. Carlo Marra

Adjunct Professor

Dr. Marra is currently dean of the University of Otago in New Zealand. He holds a bachelor of science (pharmacy), a doctor of pharmacy, and a doctor of philosophy in health care and epidemiology from the University of British Columbia, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada in Arthritis Epidemiology and Pharmacoepidemiology. He has previously held a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and was a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar.

Dr. Marra’s research has mainly focused on health economics, quality of life research and pharmacoepidemiology. He has been published in almost 200 peer-reviewed articles and has more than 100 other publications as well as presented at nearly 200 conferences.

Research Areas of Interest:

  • Conduct and methodology of economic evaluations and formulary decision-making
  • Potential impact of the pharmacist on health outcomes and satisfaction of patients with chronic medical conditions (mainly muscoskeletal and respiratory diseases) and the provision of health services

Teaching Areas of Interest: Pharmacotherapeutics and pathophysiology for musculoskeletal diseases, critical appraisal, health technology assessment and formulary decision-making
