Seeking pharmacist volunteers

Dear Pharmacist,

This is a call for “Volunteers for Job Shadowing Experience” for the School of Pharmacy’s first year students (Class of 2023) in the Winter 2019 semester. As you may be aware, first year students no longer complete a PPE in Spring-Summer, but rather complete a job shadowing placement in the winter semester as part of their Pharmacy Practice II course (PHAR 2251).

This placement is to take place on four specific dates (all Thursdays): Jan 24, Feb 14, March 7, and March 21 for just three hours each day (9:00-12:00 or 1:00-4:00).

The purpose of the shadowing is to give them a brief, but valuable orientation to a community pharmacy, showing them standard procedures for filling prescriptions, setting up a patient profile, managing inventory, counselling patients, etc.

Students will not be required to complete a full activity manual throughout the shadowing, rather they will bring along a more brief activity sheet, with a limited number of standard introductory activities (e.g., reconstitute a suspension, process a refill, etc.).

Please consider helping our new students during their first experience in a community pharmacy.

If you have any questions about this shadowing experience, please contact Karina Arnold (PHAR 2251 course coordinator) at (709) 864-7490 or karina.arnold@mun.ca.
