Program Information
The Bachelor of Music Education as a 2nd Degree program is designed to prepare teachers of Grades K-12 music education. The program includes coursework and practical experience. The program is intended for candidates who have already completed an appropriate Bachelor of Music degree.

Applications are still being accepted for Fall 2026 admission to the Music Education as a 2nd Degree program.Admission is currently being offered on a rolling basis. Completed application packages will be considered as time, resources, and space permits.

In addition to coursework, this degree also requires the completion of a practicum placement.
Practicum placements are a shared responsibility between the student and the Faculty of Education. The faculty will work with you to secure a placement but we can not guarantee you will secure a site or finish a placement.
Program Cost
The Bachelor of Music Education as a 2nd Degree program entails 45 credit hours of course work and practical experience.
The tuition fees for the program can be calculated by referring to the table below. Tuition fees do not include admission and other ancillary fees. Please refer to the "More Information on Tuition and Other Fees" section for more information on the costs to attend Memorial.

Required Supporting Documents
The following documents are required as part of the application process (submission instructions are provided to the applicant during the I Want to Apply application process):
Applicants must submit contact information for two references: one academic and one non-academic.
- Academic Reference: This should be a faculty member from your Bachelor of Music program who has taught or supervised you and is familiar with your academic abilities.
- Non-Academic Reference: This should be an individual who is familiar with your contributions to work and/or volunteer activities.
The names and email addresses of referees’ will be requested and collected electronically by the Office of the Registrar during the online application process. Referees will be contacted by the Office of the Registrar shortly after submission of your online application for admission.
The resume should focus on the applicant’s music experiences in a personal and/or professional capacity.
The resume is collected electronically during the online application process, but can also be submitted directly to the Office of the Registrar.
Official transcripts from institutions other than Memorial University are to be sent directly from the awarding Institution to The Office of the Registrar, Memorial University. For instructions, please see the ‘Official Documents’ section on the Submitting Your Documents page.
Official transcripts, indicating courses completed and courses in progress, must be received no later than February 1st.
Official transcript showing the most recent grades must be received no later than June 15th.
Application Assessment
In assessing applications, consideration will be given to students’ overall academic performance, resume submission, and recommendations from references.
For applicants still completing the prerequisite Bachelor of Music degree, consideration will be given to the courses for which they are registered at the time of application. Applicants who will have completed all requirements for admission by the end of the spring semester of the year that admission is being sought will be considered as time and resources permit.
