About the Rural Education Cohort
The Rural Education Cohort is a pilot program made possible through funding from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The program is designed specifically for individuals residing in rural NL who are seeking a meaningful career in rural education, and who want to learn, train and work in communities closer to their home.
The first Rural Education Cohort of the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a Second Degree program commenced in Winter 2026, with an expected Fall 2027 completion date.
Program Information
The Rural Education Cohort is a specialized offering of the Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a 2nd Degree program. The full-time, five-semester cohort is offered to students residing in rural Newfoundland and Labrador and can be completed remotely with opportunities for regional, in-person workshops.
The Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) as a 2nd Degree program is designed to prepare teachers of kindergarten to grade six. The program includes coursework, school visit days and a one-semester internship placement. The program is intended for candidates who have already completed an appropriate bachelor’s degree.
