Safety & Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre

(Contractual On-Call Positions)

 

DUTIES

The successful applicant(s) will support the delivery of practical instruction and training in NFPA Certified courses, Industrial courses, Marine Emergency Response courses as per the Safety & Emergency Response Training Centre’s (SERT-C) Integrated Management System and applicable governing standards and guidelines. Courses will be primarily delivered at the SERT-C, Stephenville Campus and occasionally at various locations within Newfoundland & Labrador, and the Northwest Territories/Nunavut. As an RTP, you will be required to provide overall emergency response and safety support during practical demonstrations in firefighting, industrial safety and emergency response, and marine survival.  This will include practical exercises in live fire evolutions, industrial emergency response exercises and in water survival in a pool or open water environment.  RTPs will conduct and document all safety and equipment inspections prior to exercises to ensure all required elements for the practical sessions are fit for purpose and perform other related duties as required.  The duties outlined above are not intended to be exhaustive and the successful candidate(s) will be familiarized on the roles and responsibilities including reviewing of a comprehensive job description during the hiring process.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

            The successful applicants must have at least two (2) years relevant experience in a firefighting and/or emergency response setting, relevant NFPA certifications including NFPA 1001 Level 2 and Advance First Aid Level 1.  A college level certification related to the emergency response sector with preference given to graduates of the Marine Institute Fire Rescue Program or approved equivalent, possess a valid industry medical or approved equivalent; and demonstrated ability to work in and around an aquatic environment. Preference will be given to candidates with superior education, relevant industry certificates, and/or additional related qualifications. NFPA 1081 and GWO certifications would be considered assets.  Equivalent qualifications or experience with the Department of National Defence, an emergency organization or a safety training organization may be considered.

 

SALARY:          Commensurate with Marine Institute Instructors' Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
