The OERC's goals are as follows:

  • Advance ocean engineering research and technology development in Canada.
  • Promote broader cooperation and interaction among research partners and between ocean engineering/technology stakeholders and the research community.
  • Foster an innovative research climate, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and commericialization of research.
  • Play an active role in shaping government policy in ocean engineering and the marine technology sector.

Research

Advance ocean engineering research and technology development in Canada

  • The aims of the Ocean Engineering Research Centre are to support the growth of ocean engineering research at Memorial University and facilitate the application of research and development work for our stakeholder community.

Cooperate

Promote broader cooperation and interaction among research partners and between ocean engineering/technology stakeholders and the research community

  • Provide forums and catalysts for research teams to form and identify and pursue opportunities through varous mechanisms (e.g. collaborative projects, granting council applications, JIPs).
  • Provide networking opportunities for faculty researchers with other researchers and community stakeholders (e.g. industry and government).

Innovate

Foster an innovative research climate, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and commericialization of research

  • Mentoring for new faculty to help launch research activities.
  • Commercialization and technology transfer opportunities for intellectual property.

Shape

Play an active role in shaping government policy in ocean engineering and the marine technology sector

  • Advocacy of technical positions that have important public policy ramifications.
  • Serve on policy making/advisory committees.
