MORE than Work (workshop series)
Campus Employment (MUCEP / ISWEP) Workshops
The MORE than Work series is a set of three workshops for students employed in MUCEP and/or ISWEP positions. MUCEP (Memorial's Undergraduate Career Experience Program) and ISWEP (International Student Work Experience Program) are well established student employment programs that are centrally managed by the Career Development Office within Student Life.
Registration and Completion of Workshops
Students who are hired in MUCEP and/or ISWEP positions are invited by the Career Development Office to register for the appropriate workshop in a given semester.
- Invitations are sent directly by email from mucep@mun.ca to the student after they have been hired and their student selection form has been submitted by their supervisor.
- The workshops must be completed in sequential order, with only one workshop per semester in which a student has been hired in a MUCEP / ISWEP position.
- Once all three MORE than Work workshops are completed (i.e. across three different semesters), students are not required to complete additional workshops, but may continue to apply for and work in MUCEP / ISWEP positions.
- Each completed workshop will be recorded as a paid hour for the students, with completion verified by the Career Development Office and recorded against the specific allocation for that student (i.e. the hiring unit is responsible for paying the student for this hour using one hour of the 40 or 80 hour allocation associated with the position in question).
- If a student is hired in two different 40 hour MUCEP positions in a given semester, they may still only complete one workshop in that semester and can only receive one paid hour from one of the position allocations.
MORE than Work (workshop series)
MORE than Work: Campus Employment 101: Introduction session
For those students starting a campus job, this is an essential first step. Students learn how to make the most of their positions by learning how to reflect on their campus employment experience and key competencies, discovering how their jobs can support academic and career goals.
MORE than Work 2.0: Levelling up your campus job
The next step in the MORE than Work series, this workshop allows the students to dive back into the Student Success Competencies, engaging in interactive career-based activities and, through the use of Memorial’s Online Record of Experience (MORE), explore ways to understand and showcase campus experiences.
MORE than Work 3.0: Translating Experience to Opportunity
Where we have already demonstrated how action words and acquired skills / competencies combine to frame up the best representation of a specific work experience on a resume, this workshop requires the student to actively update their resume by applying these techniques to their MUCEP / ISWEP experiences.
Why MORE than Work?
The ultimate goal of our workshops is to enhance our students' understanding of the transferable skills they gain through campus employment, increase their confidence, and help them articulate their experiences in future academic, professional, or personal settings. We know that fostering skill awareness in post-secondary students supports workforce readiness, reduces the skills gap, and helps develop more adaptable, capable graduates who are better prepared to meet the demands of an evolving job market.
MORE (Memorial's Online Record of Experience)
By integrating Memorial’s Online Record of Experience (MORE) into the workshops, we show students how their campus employment, co‑curricular involvement, and experiential learning contribute directly to their skill development. At the same time, the workshop reinforces the use of each student’s Experiential Transcript as a tool to track, document, and showcase these experiences throughout their academic journey!
MORE compiles all these experiences, overall time committed and competencies gained from participation. More than simply a record of student involvement or student activities, MORE uses reflection to transform activities into deeper learning experiences.
And MORE isn't limited to students participating in campus employment experiences - every student at Memorial has the opportunity to create and build their own online record of experience. Click here to learn more about MORE!
