Ethics and compliance approval
Some of the certifications that may be required prior to account opening include:
Research involving human subjects must be approved by the appropriate research ethics board (REB). Ethics approval for health research is overseen by the Health Research Ethics Authority, research in the social sciences, humanities, science and engineering is overseen by the Interdisciplinary Committee on Ethics in Human Research, and research at Grenfell Campus is overseen by the Grenfell Campus Research Ethics Board.
All animal care and use for the purposes of research, teaching, testing or field studies conducted by Memorial University faculty, students or staff must be submitted for Animal Care Committee approval.
The use of biohazardous agents, such as cell cultures, bacteria, chlamydia, mycoplasma, fungi, viruses, and parasites, must be approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee.
Research involving radioactive materials must be approved by the Radiation Control Committee, per Memorial's consolidated radioisotope licence.
Memorial is committed to strengthening Indigenous research, including establishing methods to ensure appropriate consultation and engagement with Indigenous communities and government leaders prior to and during the initial stages of research on both community-identified and outside researcher-led initiatives.
