The Animal Care Services provides Memorial University's clinical, operational and regulatory oversight for the care and use of animals used in medical and scientific research and teaching programs.
The veterinary professionals and technical team work with the Institutional Animal Care Committee, faculty and students to provide the highest standard of care. Excellence in animal care is a requirement for excellence in research and teaching and to promote the 3R's of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.
The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) has accredited Memorial University with a certificate of Good Animal Practice. Oversight for the animal care and use program is governed by federal and provincial laws, guidelines, memoranda of understanding and the Canadian Council on Animal Care, whose standards and guidelines that are recognized by public and private institutions across the country.
