The Department of Human Resources is holding a week of informative online sessions from Monday, June 6 to Friday, June 10. Sign up for one session or many depending on your interest in the various topics! Sessions will cover a range of employment related topics such as policy information, recruitment, retention, benefits, wellness and recognition. 

Below is the agenda for the week along with information on how to register for each session.  All sessions will be offered online. If you require accommodations, such as ASL interpreting or real-time captioning, please email equity@mun.ca.

Monday, June 6Policy and Me
10-11 a.m.

General Policy Overview, presenter: Kayla Hynes

 

This session will be helpful for administrators and employees in navigating human resource policy. Learn why human resource policies are important, the policy framework process for developing human resource policies, and where to locate relevant human resource policies, procedures and guidelines.

11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Respectful Workplace Policy, presenters: Michael Kielly and Roxanne Jackson

 

This session is for any employee looking to gain a deeper understanding of the Respectful Workplace Policy. This session includes an overview of guiding principles, latest legislation, definition of harassment and the process for bringing forward concerns.

Compensation Policy and Grant Funded Guidelines, presenters: Emily Wooley and Kim Blanchard

 

This session focuses on the university’s compensation policy for non-bargaining, management and professional, and leadership groups and discuss the Guidelines for Employment of Grant Employees. Targeted towards administrators.

10-11 a.m.

Successful Transition to Retirement, provided by: Lifeworks     

 

This session will help participants plan early to set retirement goals in all areas, explore available resources and identify ways to overcome any possible obstacles in reaching their goals.

Ergonomics, presenter: Erin Bradbury

 

Ergonomics for the office environment, how to set up your workstation to fit you and tips on adding movement to your workday.

Introduction to the Mental Health Toolkit, presenter: Michael Kielly   

 

Introduction to the Mental Health Toolkit microsite. This site provides links to resources and information (including emergency contact information) available through Memorial, the government and in the community. Resources can be searched based on the mental health continuum (heathy, reacting, injured and ill).

Selection Process, presenters: Kim Blanchard and Roxanne Jackson

 

This session will guide administrators through the selection process in recruitment.

Assessment of Status (Independent Contractor vs. Employment), presenters: Kelly Martin and Kayla Hynes

 

Ths session will provide guidance on determining the status of an individual who provides services to Memorial University or a business entity which provides services to Memorial University and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.

Incorporating employee recognition into our everyday. This session discusses targets of Transforming Our Horizons, formal recognition awards at Memorial, and tips for supervisors and employees to recognize one another.

This is a session on Memorial’s employee value proposition. Focusing on what we have to offer as an organization as well as how and when we can appropriately communicate these benefits to attract and retain candidates.

Friday, June 10New Employee Meet and Greet                                                                                                                 
9-11 a.m.

New Employee Orientation, presenters: Shauna Quinlan and Michael Kielly    

 

Welcoming new employees to Memorial University and assisting them in becoming familiar with the organization’s culture as well as policies and procedures and other onboarding tips.
