Navigating Together Sessions

The Department of Human Resources is holding a week of informative online and in-person sessions from Monday, June 12 to Friday, June 16. Sign up for as many sessions as you like.

Sessions cover a range of employment related topics such as policy information, recruitment, benefits, wellness and recognition.

To register for a session, please email evp@mun.ca and indicate which session(s) you would like to attend. If you are unable to attend an in-person session in the UC - The Landing, please indicate this in your email to request a virtual link for Microsoft Teams. If you require accommodations, such as ASL interpreting or real-time captioning, please email equity@mun.ca.  

Monday, June 12

9-10:30 a.m.

Navigating the Hiring Process

Facilitators: Kim Blanchard and Rachel Blundon

Location: UC - The Landing

This session will refresh administrators on the recruitment selection process and will focus on the screening of candidates, recruitment considerations and documentation requirements. 

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.                

Hiring Foreign Nationals: Recruitment and Immigration Considerations for Non-Academic Hires

Facilitators: Sharmila Ratnam, Tina Kielly and Natasha Clark

Location: UC - The Landing

This session will provide administrators with insight into the hiring process of foreign nationals and will include information on immigration basics, our obligation as an employer, recruitment considerations and more.

This session will provide employees with information on Memorial's employee value proposition and focus on what Memorial has to offer as an organization.

Navigating the Leave Policy

Facilitators: Erica Follett and Rachel Blundon 

Location: UC - The Landing

This session will dive into the leave policy and will focus on sick leave and attendance management. The intended audience is administrators. 

11a.m.-12:30  p.m.

Navigating the Accommodation Process

Facilitators: Roxanne Jackson and Sharmila Ratnam

Location: UC - The Landing

This session will provide an overview of workplace accommodation, the accommodation process and required documentation. The intended audience is administrators.

2-3 p.m.

Navigating the Exit Process

Facilitators: Susan Janes and Michael Kielly

Location: Microsoft Teams

This session will provide an overview of Memorial’s process for exiting employees including steps in the process, required forms and frequently asked questions. The intended audience is administrators.

3-4 p.m.

Job Evaluation - Position Control, Repurposing, Tentative JE Ratings & Organizational Impact

Facilitators: Jennine Loder and Michael Kielly

Location: Microsoft Teams

This session will provide an overview of job evaluation and how administrators can navigate changes to positions and related processes. Organizational impacts and considerations will also be reviewed. The intended audience is administrators.  

Wednesday, June 14
10-11:30 a.m.

Motivate, Recognize and Energize Employees

Facilitators: TELUS Health

Location: Microsoft Teams

This employee session is offered by the Department of Human Resources along with an expert facilitator from TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks). This high-energy seminar will help participants create a tool bag of techniques to motivate and recognize employees and managers. This session will also discuss how motivation and recognition leads to increased productivity. 

2-3 p.m.

Setting up Employees for Success & Recognizing Employees at Memorial

Presenters: Michael Kielly and Erica Follett

Location: Microsoft Teams

This session will empower administrators to set a framework for employee success from the perspective of goal and expectation setting. The session will also cover how we can incorporate employee recognition into our everyday work. The intended audience is administrators.

3-4 p.m.

Respectful Workplace Session

Facilitators: Roxanne Jackson and Shauna Quinlan

Location: Microsoft Teams

This session is for any employee looking to gain a deeper understanding of the Respectful Workplace Policy. The session will include an overview of guiding principles, the latest legislation, a definition of harassment and cover the process for bringing forward concerns.

Navigating Your Pension

Facilitator: Glen Roberts

Location: UC - The Landing

This is an employee information session covering Memorial’s pension plan. Whether learning about your pension for the first time or refreshing your understanding, this session will provide an overview and tools to review your pension details. 

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.                             

Interview Skills & Supporting Career Development

Facilitators: Janet Norman and Sheneen Young

Location: UC - The Landing

This session will support employees by offering practical tips regarding interview skills and career development at Memorial.

2-3:30 p.m.

Mental Health in the Workplace & Ergonomics

Facilitators:Erin Bradbury and Michael Kielly

Location: UC - The Landing

This employee information session will introduce the Mental Health Toolkit microsite which provides links to resources and information (including emergency contact information) available through Memorial, the government and in the community. This session will also talk about wellness from an ergonomics perspective, discuss how employees can be supported in their workstation set-up and provide tips on adding movement to the workday.

Networking With HR

Facilitators: HR Department

Location: UC - The Landing

Come by to meet representatives from the HR team in a welcoming social “pop in” space and have an opportunity to network and even ask quick questions to HR representatives from each functional area. All employees are welcome.
