Bringing together researchers, industry, and government to solve complex ocean problems.
The Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) is a collaborative ocean research institute that is designed to deliver social, economic, and environmental benefits.
Established in 2015, research is focused on three key areas: achieving net zero, protecting biodiversity, and sustaining bioresources.
OFI research is made possible through funding from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) and various private and public-sector organizations.
OFI represents an historic partnership between Memorial University, Dalhousie University, the University of Prince Edward Island through the CFREF program "Safe and Sustainable Development of the Ocean Frontier (SSDOF). This program catalyzed a new collaboration linking Memorial University, Dalhousie University, Université du Québec à Rimouski and Université Laval through the CFREF program "Transforming Climate Action" (TCA).
