CREAIT Network impacted by power outages

Memorial’s Core Research Equipment & Instrument Training (CREAIT) Network will keep equipment powered down until the week of Jan. 13 to conserve energy and to allow time to gain further confidence in a stable power supply and avoid damage to instrumentation sensitive to unplanned power outages.

The CREAIT Network is comprised of 10 research satellites across the St. John’s campus and at the Department of Ocean Sciences in Logy Bay. During the power outages and university closure, CREAIT laboratories were inspected and staff worked to avoid or mitigate damages. Instruments were disconnected from power sources and breakers were turned off where applicable and deemed necessary.

Full impacts of the extended power outage will be assessed and reported once stable power is restored and the equipment can be re-initialized.

The User Committee members for each satellite, and users presently awaiting timeslots to use equipment, are being contacted directly with details about current plans for re-initialization. For more information, please contact Dr. Brent Myron,bmyron@mun.ca or 864-6798 or Dr. Marlies Rise, marliesr@mun.ca or 864-3213.
