Update - Memorial to reopen on Thursday, Jan. 9

The majority of Memorial University facilities on the Island of Newfoundland will reopen for normal operating hours on Thursday, Jan. 9, for all students, faculty and staff.

All classes (unless otherwise noted on the cancellation page of http://www.mun.ca for St. John’s campus, http://www.mi.mun.ca for the Marine Institute or communicated via email for Grenfell Campus) will resume as scheduled and students are advised that the regular Thursday academic schedule is in effect.

The exceptions to opening include:
·         The Marine Institute's Regional Fisheries and Marine Centre in Lewisporte will remain closed until Monday, Jan. 13.
·         For Thursday and Friday, Aramark food services on the St. John's campus will be restricted to the Main Dining Hall and the cafeterias in the Engineering Building   and the Science Building which will operate under regular hours.

Additionally, in an effort to ensure continued energy conservation at Memorial, there will be reduced heating and lighting in buildings, and faculties and departments will be taking a staged approach to restarting only essential electrical equipment and lights. Employees are asked to consult with their supervisors before turning on any equipment, including computers, in their areas.

Finally, all students, faculty, staff and visitors are reminded to dress for lower building temperatures and to walk with care as the recent weather and closure has slowed snow-clearing and ice control efforts in some areas.

In terms of impact of this closure, all academic deadlines (such as tuition fees payment, course drop/add, etc.) will be extended the number of business days (three) that were lost. As well, there will be some adjustments to the semester schedule, but mid-term break and end-of-semester study break will remain intact. Specific details will be shared via the student self-serve portal, the institution's websites and social media on Thursday.
