Galactical graduation
Students were spacey, but in atmosphere and not in mind. The Class of 2018 celebrated their achievements and hard work at the Johnson Geo Centre on Saturday, June 2.
New dean addresses students
Newly-minted dean, Dr. Shawn Bugden, delivered words of wisdom to the students.
"Maybe it is surprising but my advice centers around the use of four-letter words. I know what you’re thinking. And while it would be good advice not to use the four-letter words that you are thinking of – as a dean or as a practicing pharmacists,there are some other four-letter words that I want you to consider."
A few of the four-letter words Dr. Bugden referred to were only and just, encouraging students to be empowered by their profession, and cult (because culture isn't a four-letter word).
"I just watched your admissions process, and saw the pharmacy cult in action. I saw students fully engaged in the interview process, ready to welcome new studetns into the cult of support that is the pharmacy program at Memorial. This cult, this culture is amazing and something you should be truly proud of."
The dean referenced that students are about to become part of a larger culture of practicing pharmacists, but hopes graduates will remember the cult they came from at Memorial.
