Permanent Resident Programs Information

The Immigration Advising Team (IAT) does not provide advice on Permanent Residency (PR) related inquiries. We understand that this is an area of interest for many international students. This page has been developed for you to find out many ways you can access PR related information.

There are many ways to become a permanent resident of Canada. International students are generally interested in three streams:

  1. Provincial Nominee Program
  2. Atlantic Immigration Program
  3. Federal Express Entry (Canadian Experience Class)

Provincial Immigration

IAT has partnered with the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. They provide weekly advising sessions answering your questions about the provincial nominee programs. They also host sessions for international students throughout the academic year:

Appointments open on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm-4:30pm; and Friday mornings from 9am – 1pm, to advise international students on labor market information, employment opportunities, and immigration to Newfoundland and Labrador. Please note, provincial immigration officers cannot provide you with information on temporary residency related questions.

Appointments are held virtually over the MS Teams. Students will receive an email to confirm the appointment which includes the MS Teams Link. Students must click on the link at the time of their appointment and wait in the virtual lobby until they are admitted.

To book an appointment:

  1. Go to my.mun.ca and log in
  2. Click "Student" or "Alumni" link near the top of the page.
