Bus Service

Metrobus

  • Metrobus is the public transit system that services the cities of St. John’s and Mount Pearl. Metrobus is currently piloting a program for various areas in the town of Paradise.
  • The cash fare per adult is $2.50, monthly passes are also available. Some routes offer accessible service and free Wifi.
  • 11 bus routes stop at Memorial (routes 1, 2, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 23, 24, 26). Locations of bus stops on or near the St. John’s campus include in front of the University Centre, near the Health Sciences Centre, on Elizabeth Avenue and Allandale Road.

Metrobus on demand

Metrobus On Demand is a pilot shared-ride service that lets riders request trips in real-time through a mobile app or over the phone by selecting a pickup point and destination, during peak times, and in frequently travelled areas, paying the same as regular Metrobus fare. GoBus

The Metrobus also provides a go Bus facility for persons with disabilities and those who are unable to access conventional transit. Please see this link for the eligibility criteria and application process.

Coachlines

  • 25 stops across Newfoundland from St. John’s to Port aux Basques.
  • DRL also carries parcels and letters and offers charters and tours.

Taxis

  • Taxi companies operate within St. John’s and surrounding areas. These companies operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Taxi meter rates start at $3.75. A non-smoking taxi and a child car seat can be requested.  In addition to cash, most taxi companies accept credit cards.

Motor vehicles and cycling

Motor Vehicles

  • All motor vehicle drivers in Newfoundland and Labrador must have a valid provincial driver’s license and have their vehicle registered.
  • If you are already in possession of a Driver’s License from another jurisdiction within Canada, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria or the Republic of Korea, you may exchange your license, within three months of arriving, for a Newfoundland license provided certain criteria are met.
