Master of Education (Inclusive and Special Education)
This Master’s degree in inclusive and special education will prepare its graduates to support the diverse learning needs of students in an inclusive environment. The program focuses on specialist knowledge for teachers interested in working with children and youth with diverse learning and behavioural needs within an inclusive environment. The program will equip its graduates to advocate for equality, foster meaningful inclusion, and provide its graduates with specialist knowledge through courses that focus on topics such as learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional and behavioural disorders, intellectual disabilities, and working with families, professionals, and communities.
Admission Requirements
In addition to meeting the requirements in the School of Graduate Studies General Regulations; applicants must have:
- Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Music Education, or a Bachelor of Special Education degree from a recognized institution with at least second-class standing, or an average of at least 70% in the last 90 attempted undergraduate credit hours
- ED 4240 An Introduction to the Exceptional Learner (or equivalent)
- ED 4242 Identification and Remediation of Learning (or equivalent)
Note: an interview may be required
Applicants from post-secondary institutions other than Memorial University will need their courses assessed for equivalency prior to submitting their application.
Applicants can help streamline this process by submitting official detailed course syllabi to the Faculty of Education, Graduate Programs Admissions Officer at edgradadmiss@mun.ca.
While the Graduate Programs Admissions Officer will make reasonable efforts to evaluate the equivalency of courses in a timely manner, applicants are encouraged to submit their courses for evaluation well in advance of the deadline date.

Note: students who have completed ED 3670 will not be given credit for ED 6475. In place of ED 6475 students must complete ED 6710 Issues in Development and Implementation of Special Education Policy and Practices.
