Apply now to receive the essential tools, resources, support, and connections needed to launch a successful career and fulfilling life in Newfoundland and Labrador. Selected participants will be supported in their transition from ‘student’ to ‘professional’.
Study and Stay NL is a collaborative initiative between Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic and the International Education Newfoundland and Labrador (IENL). It is a free program offered to motivated international students studying full-time in Newfoundland and Labrador and committed to living, working and contributing to communities following their graduation.
What is the Study and Stay Program?
The Atlantic Canada Study and Stay™ - Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) program, is for exceptional and motivated students who are committed to living, working, and contributing to communities in Newfoundland and Labrador. This province-wide program connects international students directly to the labor market, helping them to build valuable employment skills, gain workplace knowledge, and build meaningful and professional connections through workshops, networking, and mentorship.
The goal of Atlantic Canada Study and Stay™ NL is to support international students to stay, live, and work in Newfoundland and Labrador post-graduation. The program provides participants with skills, resources, and support that are essential as they transition from ‘student’ to ‘professional’.
What are the benefits to international students?
Select participants are provided with one-on-one enhanced and group supports throughout the program to ensure they gain the resources, tools, connections, and support needed to launch a
successful career and fulfilled life in Newfoundland and Labrador. A variety of training and supports are provided through the Atlantic Canada Study and Stay™ N L program, providing opportunities for students to apply their learnings, build connections, and gain a deeper understanding of Newfoundland and Labrador’s workplace culture, labor market opportunities and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The Atlantic Canada Study and Stay™ - NL program will run two student cohorts per year for three years, starting January 2019. Applicants should be committed to living and working in Newfoundland and Labrador post-graduation and demonstrate leadership and initiative toward becoming an entrepreneur. To be considered for the Study and Stay NL program, students must be registered full time with Memorial University or the College of the North Atlantic. Chosen applicants will be expected to participate and complete all program tasks and activities and commit to participating in a student retreat and networking events.
Eligibility and Requirements
Students must complete an online application form at https://ATLANTICCANADASTUDYANDSTAY.COM Acceptance in the Study and Stay NL program is a competitive process. Before you apply please make sure you are eligible and meet all the mandatory requirements below:
• Are you an international, registered full time student at Memorial University or the College of the North Atlantic in Newfoundland and Labrador?
• Are you in good academic standing at your institution?
• Do you have a valid study permit? Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents do not qualify for this program.
• Upon time of graduation, will you be eligible to apply for a 2-3 year Post Graduate Work Permit?
• Are you willing to attend a mandatory program retreat as part of this program (date to be determined with each cohort)?
• Do you have a LinkedIn profile ready to upload?
Before you apply, prepare a short Letter of Intent that will help with the review of your application as a candidate for the program. This is an opportunity for you to ‘pitch’ yourself by telling us a little about yourself, why you would make a good candidate for the program, how you will benefit the cohort (group), and what you will contribute to Newfoundland and Labrador as a graduate.
Am I eligible?
• Applications will be screened online and through a selection committee.
• Applicants will be notified about their status in the program.
• If selected, students must be able to attend a mandatory program retreat.
• The program is free to selected students.
• There will be two application deadlines per year.
