Registration open for the Move Memorial Challenge!

May 8th, 2025

The Department of Human Resources and the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) are challenging the Memorial community to move during the month of June. The Move Memorial Challenge encourages students and employees to work in teams of up to six people to complete 1,035 KM or 1.5 million steps in just 30 days (for a team of six people, this works out to 8,300 steps per person per day! The challenge starts on June 1 and ends June 30.

Kelly Neville, wellness lead at the SWCC, says the goal of the challenge is to encourage physical activity and to get our community moving in a fun and enjoyable way.

“In 2024, we had a remarkable total of 71 teams in the Cross Campus Step Challenge with 425 individuals,” she said. “This year we hope to engage even more of Team Memorial using the Big Team Challenge website and app.”

The Big Team Challenge website and app was selected for its ability to automatically sync with participant’s smart devices although steps can be manually entered as well. In addition, for every 10 participants who register, Big Team Challenge will plant one tree as part of their commitment to make a positive change on the environment.

The challenge officially starts June 1, but teams must register before this date to participate. All teams will be entered into a prize drawing (over $300 value!) and there will be opportunities to receive extra entries to the drawing throughout the challenge. Along with the raffle prize, the team that logs the most distance and the team that improves the most upon their weekly goal will receive a prize.

Please note, the Move Memorial Challenge is replacing the Cross Campus Step Challenge to align with the national participACTION campaign for Canadians to move more in the month of June.
