Location: Junior Common Room

The Blanket Exercise is an interactive way of learning Indigenous history with the goal of building an understanding about the shared history of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada while fostering respect and reconciliation. Participants will be guided through the experience by two facilitators who walk people through situations that include pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. The Blanket Exercise was developed in 1996 by the Aboriginal Rights Coalition and created in consultation with Indigenous Elders, knowledge keepers and educators.

Gender Diversity in the Workplace

March 25, 2020
Time: 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
Location: Junior Common Room
Contact: Tina Hickey

In this presentation, we blend research evidence and lived experience to outline and dispel the dominant myths about trans and gender diverse people. We discuss language and terminology, gender and sexual diversity in the human species, the science of gender, gender identity development, and social and medical transition. Finally, we identify local and national supports for trans and gender diverse adults, as well as resources to learn more about gender diversity. We end our session with a question and answer period and a discussion of policy and strategies for inclusion of trans and gender diverse employees at Memorial. This event is open to any university employee and is supported by funds associated with the implementation of the Employment Equity and Diversity Action Plan
