Applicant qualifications:

  • Students holding a Bachelor of Arts in English
  • Students holding any major and six courses in English
  • Students with equivalent work or lived experience
  • Students with any Bachelor of Arts are encouraged to make inquiries and apply

Program options:

  • Part-time – for non-traditional learners or working adults
  • One-year major research project
  • Two-year thesis option - to allow international students the opportunity to gain working visas on completion.

Minimum admission requirements

  • MALA – Bachelor's degree in Literature or related area from a recognized institution, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0; six undergraduate courses in English

  • Minimum TOEFL scores are: 580 for the paper-based test; 237 on the computer-based test; or 92 on the Internet-based test. The minimum IELTS score is an overall band score of 7.0. The minimum MUNTEL score is an overall band score of 70.

  • One seat per year will be reserved for a student with Indigenous ancestry who meets the minimum criteria for admission. There will be a bursary for an Indigenous student to study full-time for the MALA. Applicants wishing to be considered under this clause shall declare their Indigenous ancestry at the time of application.
